Eight DU Gymnasts Named Scholastic All-America Award Winners

DENVER - Eight Pioneer gymnasts earned National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches for Women (NACGC/W) Scholastic All-America honors, as the Denver gymnastics team finished the season ranked 26th in the nation.

Junior Annamari Maaranen (Tampere, Finland) led the team with a 3.97 GPA in psychology and communications. Lauren Garan (Cos Cob, Conn.), Kelley Hennigan (The Woodlands, Texas), Kristina Coccia (Bethlehem, Pa.), Amanda Johanson (Park City, Utah), Ellen McCarthy (Aurora, Ontario), Danielle Kirchoff and Brianna Artemev (Arvada, Colo.) also received Scholastic All-America status for earning GPAs of 3.5 or better for the year.

Gymnasts must have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher during the 2009-10 academic year to be eligible for NACGC/W Scholastic All-America honors.
