David Carle begins his fourth season as a student assistant coach for the Pioneers. Carle assists the Pioneers in skill development, practice, strength and conditioning, and video breakdown and analysis.
Carle was originally recruited by Denver, but retired from hockey in July of 2008 after being diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Carle was a standout defenseman for Shattuck-St. Mary's, helping the Sabres to the national title in 2007 and 2008.
The Anchorage, Alaska, native was a seventh round draft pick (203rd overall) of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Carle enjoys golfing and fishing, and is pursuing a degree in business.
He graduated from Shattuck-St. Mary's Prep School as an honor roll student in 2008.
Carle served as video coordinator the the gold-medal Team USA Under-17 Team at the 2011 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Carle is the brother of former Pioneer and current Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Matt Carle (27) and Alex (17).
