DENVER - Jordyn Wieber, a member of the 2012 USA Gymnastics Gold Medal team, will be the featured guest at the University of Denver's gymnastics meet on Saturday, March 9, head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart announced on Thursday. The Pioneers will face Arizona State and Illinois State at 6 p.m. MT in Hamilton Gymnasium.
Group tickets for the March 9 meet will go on sale on Monday, December 10, through Group Ticket Manager Adam Sizemore (303-871-2389), and are $9. Youth that are a part of a group of 20 or more will be eligible for an exclusive autograph session with Wieber pre-meet. Availability for that autograph session is limited. Autograph cards will be provided, and there is a limit to one autograph per youth group ticket holder
"We are very excited to have Jordyn join us for our March 9 competition this year," Kutcher-Rinehart said. "It's always great to be able to welcome one of the members of the Gold Medal team. I think she's going to be great to have out here to engage the community. This is a great opportunity for fans that have seen her compete on television to come out and meet her in person, and while they're doing that, enjoy what should be a competitive collegiate gymnastics meet."
The Pioneers are coming off their 14th-straight NCAA Regional appearance, and lose just one senior, Louise Mercer (Nottingham, England) from a team that finished the regular season No. 14 in the nation in RQS (Regional Qualifying Score). To fill the void left by Mercer, and the retiring of Kayla Carlsen (Douglasville, Ga.), Kutcher-Rinehart has added seven freshmen to the 2013 roster, and redshirt-senior Brianna Springer (Arvada, Colo.) will return to the Pioneers' lineup. Springer, who missed most of the 2012 season (mono), made back-to-back NCAA Semifinal appearances in 2010 and 2011. The Pioneers also return junior all-arounders Moriah Martin (Lake Mary, Fla.) and Melodie Pulgarin Linero (Barcelona, Spain). Martin qualified for the NCAA Semifinals in 2012.
Season tickets are on sale now, and can be purchased online by clicking here. Tickets for the 2013 season are $42 for the Pioneers' six home meets in Hamilton Gymnasium. Youth season ticket holders will be guaranteed a spot in line for autographs during pre-meet on March 9. Individual meet tickets went on sale Monday, and can be purchased here.
Denver will host its annual Intrasquad on December 15 at 6 p.m. MT in Hamilton Gymnasium.
