Since the beginning of University of Denver hockey in 1949, 37 individuals have been recognized with 44 All-American honors. From that group of 37, seven players earned All-America status twice. The first were Marty Howe and Bill Masterton in 1960 and 1961, as they led the Pioneers to back-to-back national titles. The others who received the prestigious honor twice were Wayne Smith (1965, 1966), Jim Wiste (1967, 1968), Keith Magnuson (1968, 1969), George Morrison (1969, 1970) and 2006 Hobey Baker Award winner Matt Carle (2005, 2006). The first Denver player to receive the honor was defenseman Eddie Miller in 1952. Six Pioneers have earned All-American honors since 2002. Goaltender Wade Dubielewicz (2002), defensemen Ryan Caldwell (2004), Matt Carle (2005, 2006), Brett Skinner (2005) and Chris Butler (2008), and forwards Gabe Gauthier (2005) and Paul Stastny (2006) have earned All-American status under head coach George Gwozdecky. Dubielewicz was named second-team All-America after posting a 20-4 record with a 1.72 goals against average and .943 saves percentage in 2001-02, and Caldwell was named a first-team JOFA All-American in 2004 after scoring 15 goals to lead Denver to its first NCAA title since 1969. Carle, Skinner and Gauthier were named CCM West All-Americans after helping the Pioneers to back-to-back NCAA national championships in 2005. Carle and Stastny earned RBK West All-America honors in 2006.
