2009: Named one of the team’s Most Valuable Freshman • named a team MVP • named the Pioneer Sportsman of the Year • skied in six meets, including the NCAA West Regional and the NCAA Championships • came in third in slalom and second in giant slalom at the NCAA Championships earning him two first team All-American honors • came in second in both the slalom and giant slalom at the Colorado Invitational • On January 12, he was named the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association men’s alpine RMISA Skier of the Week.

 

Before Denver: Ranked first in the world among slalom racers born in 1987 • has won three national championship medals, and finished in the top ten in junior competition five times • a 2008 national champion in Norway • ranked 71st in the world among all slalom skiers • finished fourth at the 2008 Nor-Am Cup Finals • had four FIS victories in 2007 and a third place finish at the slalom national championship.

 

Personal: Born November 29, 1987 in Norway • son of Stein Ove Haugen and Berit Haugen • has two siblings, Per Torstein and Kristine • hopes to graduate with a degree in International Business and compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver • enjoys white water kayaking • chose to attend Denver because of the excellent quality of its ski team and the stellar reputation of the Daniels College of Business.
