DENVER - Alex Clinkenbeard of Loveland (Colo.) High School has signed a National Letter of Intent to play tennis at the University of Denver, two-time Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Coach of the Year Danny Westerman announced today.

Clinkenbeard was the Colorado 5A No. 1 singles runner-up the past two seasons as a junior and senior, respectively. He was consistently ranked in the Intermountain Region Top 10 and earned several sportsmanship awards during his high school career, including the 2009 Reidy Award for Sportsmanship, Leadership and Achievement.

He was a two-time Academic All-State First Team selection, who was ranked at the top of his senior class. Clinkenbeard also earned two letters in track.

"We are very excited that Alex will be joining us next fall," Westerman said. "He is a great athlete and one of the top recruits from Colorado, and we know that his best tennis is ahead of him right here at DU."
