AUBURN, Wash. - The University of Denver women's golf team moved up to 11th after the second round of the NCAA West Regional at the par 72, 6,266-yard Washington National Golf Course. The Pioneers carded a 19-over par 307 in the second round for a total of 38 over 614.
"We got off to a slow start today, but as a team played better on the back nine," said head coach Sammie Chergo. "This is a big, long and wet golf course and more rain is forecasted for tomorrow."
USC leads the regional with a four under 572 through three rounds after carding a four under 284 in the second round. Tennessee is seven shots behind (579), followed by Virginia (591), UC Davis (592) and Arizona (596) to round out the top five.
Junior Sarah Faller (Galway, Ireland) is tied for 13th with a 3-over 147 after carding scores of 74 and 73 in the first two rounds. Senior Ellie Givens (Darlington, England) is tied for 53rd with a 10-over 154 with scores of 74 and 80.
Freshman Tonje Daffinrud (Tonsburg, Norway) is tied for 85th with a 14-over 158 off scores of 81 and 77. Sophomore Kelly Drack (Melbourne, Fla.) and junior Anna Christenson (Lincoln, Neb.) are tied for 94th and 102nd, respectively. Drack is 16-over par 160 (83-77), while Christenson is 17-over 161 (78-83).
The Pioneers are making their 10th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance after capturing their eighth straight Sun Belt Conference title. Denver is looking to advance out of the NCAA Regional for the fourth time.
Final round action of the NCAA West Regional continues tomorrow at Washington National Golf Course.
