DENVER - Sophomore Jason Zucker's (Las Vegas, Nev.) second goal of the night at 17:09 of the third period sent the University of Denver to a 2-2 overtime tie against McGill University Saturday night in exhibition action at Magness Arena.

The Pioneers outshot McGill 35-29 and received solid goaltending performances from junior Adam Murray (Anchorage, Alaska) and freshman Juho Olkinuora (Helsinki, Finland).

"We played pretty well for our first exhibition game," DU head coach George Gwozdecky said. "We did some good things and we have some things we need to work on like our conditioning. I thought Adam and Juho both played well in net."

Zucker beat Hubert Morin (33 saves) from the right faceoff circle off a pass from junior Drew Shore (Denver, Colo.) to tie the score at 2-2. Senior Luke Salazar (Thornton, Colo.) also tallied an assist on the game-tying goal.

Zucker staked DU to a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal from Beau Bennett (Gardena, Calif.) and David Makowski (Wildwood, Mo.) at 10:17 of the first period.

McGill tied the score at 1-1 with a goal from Francis Verreault-Paul at the buzzer of the second period. Earning assists were Marc-Andre Dorion and Maxime Langelier-Parent.

Benoit Levesque beat Olkinuora on a breakaway goal at 11:22 of the final stanza. Nicolas Biniek and Vincent Bourgeois earned assists on the goal.

Murray stopped 17 shots in first two periods of action, while Olkinuora added 10 saves in the third period and overtime.

The Pioneers went 1-for-6 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.

DU hosts the U.S. Under-18 Team in exhibition action on Friday, Oct. 7. Fans can visit or call the Daniel L. Ritchie Center North Box Office at (303) 871-GOAL to purchase tickets.
