DENVER - University of Denver junior Madeleine Saari-Byström (Uppsala, Sweden) is ranked No. 95 in the first 2012 Campbell's/ITA Women's College Tennis Singles Rankings, announced Tuesday.

Saari-Byström, who is ranked No. 4 in the Mountain Region, led Denver with an 11-1 fall record. Saari-Byström, who transferred to Denver from South Carolina, captured the singles title at the CU Invite and advanced to the semifinals at the ITA Mountain Regional this fall.

Three other DU singles players were ranked in the top 20 in the Mountain Region. Junior Sophia Bergner (Schechen, Germany) is ranked No. 8, while Elena Najera (San Diego, Calif.) is ranked No. 15 and Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.) is ranked No. 16, respectively. Najera and Schnell posted seven singles wins each during the fall season, while Bergner had four.

Bergner and Najera are ranked No. 9 in Mountain Region Doubles. Bergner and Najera, who advanced to the doubles round of 16 at the USTA/ITA Mountain Regional, lead DU with a three doubles wins.

"We had very good results in our region this past fall," DU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "The individual rankings are well-earned and we hope to have a very successful dual season as a team."

DU opens its dual season against Utah State on Jan. 21 in Boise, Idaho.
