BOCA RATON, Fla. - University of Denver sophomore Elena Najera (San Diego, Calif.) recorded her 12th singles victory of the season in the Pioneers 5-2 triumph over Florida Atlantic at Patch Reef Park on Friday.
Denver (9-7) also scored singles victories from sophomore Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.), junior Steffi Rath (Hochst, Austria) and sophomore Natalie Dunn (Fort Collins, Colo.), dropping FAU to 9-6 on the season.
Dunn started the Pioneers off on the right foot with her 6-4, 6-2 win over Natasha Phillips at No. 6 singles. Najera defeated Natasha Basma 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to clinch the victory. Schnell earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Cassie Bergeson, while Rath defeated Erika Mrazkova 7-5, 6-2.
The Pioneers earned the doubles point with victories from Rath and junior Sophia Bergner (Schechen, Germany) at No. 1 doubles, while Dunn and Najera partnered for the victory at No. 2 doubles.
Denver returns to action on Friday, March 30 against No. 65 Princeton at the Jadwin Gymnasium beginning at 10 a.m. MT.
