AUSTIN, Texas - The Denver women's tennis team began the 2012 fall season Friday at the Longhorn Invitational at Penick-Allison Tennis Center in Austin, Texas.
Senior Sophia Bergner (Schechen, Germany) and sophomore transfer Mandy van den Eerenbeemt (Best, The Netherlands) posted singles wins for the Pioneers. Bergner beat Tulane's Emma Levy 6-2, 6-2 in the Orange Draw, while van den Eerenbeemt beat Houston's Liselot Koenen 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the Black Draw.
Seniors Emma Isberg (Tyreso, Sweden) and Steffi Rath (Hochst, Austria), junior Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.) and sophomore Michelle Garpenlov (Tyreso, Sweden) are also competing this weekend for the Pioneers.
