USAFA, Colo. - The University of Denver finished a long first day at the 2012 Air Force Invitational Friday night.
Competing in singles and doubles for the Pioneers are seniors Sophia Bergner (Schechen, Germany), Steffi Rath (Hochst, Austria) and Emma Isberg (Tyreso, Sweden), junior Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.) and sophomore Michelle Garpenlov (Tyreso, Sweden).
Denver had a good day of doubles as a pair of teams each went 2-0. Bergner and Rath beat Eastern Michigan's Diana Davitaia and Nino Mebuke 9-7 and Oregon's Nicole Long and Brooke Hughes 8-6 in the Alpha flight. IIsberg and Garpenlov went 2-0 in the Charlie flight. Schnell and van den Eerenbeemt took a loss in the Bravo flight.
Bergner posted a singles win in the Alpha draw, while Garpenlov was victorious in the Echo draw.
