Denver - The University of Denver men's tennis team defeated No. 68 Purdue 7-0 in their home opening match at CAC Inverness.
"It feels great to get our first win of the year against a solid Purdue team." said Pioneers Head Coach Danny Westerman. "The boys did a fantastic job taking care of their own court while keeping positive energy as a team."
No. 47 Enej Bonin (Koper, Slovenia) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Purdue's Syzmon Tatarcyzk in No. 1 Singles. Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany) defeated Mark Kovacs 6-3, 6-3, and Max Krammer(Perchtoldsdorf, Austria) beat Diego Acosta 6-2, 7-5 playing at No. 3 Singles. Henry Craig claimed a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Pawel Pozionski, Alex Clinkenbeard (Loveland, Colo.) beat Krisztian Krocsko 6-3, 6-4, and Luke Manley (Edmonton, Alberta) dropped Aaron Dujovne 7-5, 4-6 (10-5) for Denver to sweep Purdue in singles play.
In Doubles, Bonin and Krammer defeated Acosta and Dujovne 8-4 and Vorkefeld and Craig beat Krocsko and Tatarcyzk 8-5. Clinkenbeard and Manley ended their match against Kovocs and Pozionski in a 6-6 tie.
The Pioneers next match is Friday, Feb. 8 against Air Force. The match starts at 3:00 p.m. at Denver Country Club.
