Denver- The University of Denver women's tennis team moves to No. 74 in the ITA polls, officials announced yesterday. North Carolina is the No. 1 ranked team in the country, Florida holds the No. 2 spot and UCLA is No. 3.
The Pioneers are coming off of a 4-3 victory over Colorado. Pioneer senior Sophia Bergner (Schechen, Germany) trailed 5-4 in the third set, but fought off two match points to defeat Colorado's Julyette Steur, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (5). The win helped boost the Pioneers to their second straight 4-3 victory.
The Pioneers have the weekend off before they host visiting New Mexico on Friday, Feb. 22 at the Denver Country Club. The match begins at 3 p.m. (MT).
