No. 47 Enej Bonin (Koper, Slovenia) defeated Dmytro Mamedov 6-3, 6-3 in No. 1 Singles play. Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany) picked up a hard-fought three set victory over No. 79 Slim Hamza, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. Redshirt Senior Max Krammer (Perchtoldsdorf, Austria) cruised to beat Cedric Willems 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Henry Craig claimed the decisive match with a 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 win over Ben Tasevac.
The Pioneers were unable to claim any doubles matches, but tough singles play gave them the deciding edge over Utah.
"Utah came out and ran us over in doubles." said Denver Head Coach Danny Westerman. "I was very pleased with Jens to beat a very good player to give our freshman Henry a chance to clinch the dual in his first ever deciding match."
The Pioneers cap off a back-to-back weekend of tennis with a match against BYU tonight. The match starts at 5:30 p.m. (MT).
