Denver- The University of Denver's No. 75 women's tennis team defeated New Mexico 6-1 at the Denver Country Club on Friday.

The Pioneers started quickly, winning two of three doubles matches. Senior Emma Isberg (Tyreso, Sweden) and sophomore Mandy van den Eerenbeemt (Best, Netherlands) defeated Kristin Eggleston and Nikolina Grbac, 9-8 (4) to take the second doubles match giving the Pioneers the early 1-0 lead.

In singles, the Pioneers claimed five of six singles matches. Junior Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.) defeated Nikolina Grbac 6-4, 6-1 in No. 2 singles play, Isberg cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Kristin Eggleston, and van den Eerenbeemt (Best, Netherlands) beat Sarah Mahboob Khan 3-6, 6-4, 10-8. Freshman Kathryn Hughes (Wrexham, Wales) claimed her second singles victory in her rookie season with a 7-6 (4), 6-0 victory over Katie Wookey. Senior Steffi Rath (Hochst, Austria) defeated Ashley Tiefel 6-2, 6-4 to claim the Pioneers' 6-1 win over New Mexico.

Denver's next match is Friday, March 1 when they host Wyoming at Monaco Athletic Club. The match starts at 7 p.m. (MT).

Isberg/van den Eerenbeemt (DEN) def. Eggleston/Grbac (NM), 9-8 (4)

Khan/Oldani (NM) def. Schnell/Derbyshire (DEN), 9-8 (5)
