Olson Named College Sports Madness WAC Player of the Week

DENVER - University of Denver men's basketball sophomore guard Brett Olson (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was named College Sports Madness WAC Player of the Week for Feb. 18-24, the website announced Monday.

Olson scored six of his team-high 16 points in the final 1:57, extending a one-point lead and driving Denver to a 63-57 road win at Northern Iowa in the Ramada Worldwide BracketBuster on ESPN3. Olson also made one of his three steals and a game-clinching block during crunch time. The point guard's two blocks tied a career high, and his five rebounds was a season best.

Olson is second in the WAC in both three-point percentage (.422) and three-pointers per game (2.38), seventh in minutes played (33.62) and 14th in both field goal percentage (.455) and steals (1.15). In WAC play, Olson is first in assist/turnover ratio (2.81), second in three-point percentage (.432), third in three-pointers made (2.33), eighth in minutes played (34.13), and 11th in both field goal percentage (.496) and assists (3.00), and 15th in scoring (11.4)

College Sports Madness also named Olson the WAC Player of the Week for Jan. 14-20.

The Pioneers, who are currently 1.5 games behind Louisiana Tech, will battle for the WAC championship as they conclude the regular season with three games at Magness Arena. Denver will host New Mexico State on Saturday, March 2 at 4 p.m. MT; Texas-Arlington on Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m. MT; and Louisiana Tech on Saturday, March 9 at 5 p.m. MT. Saturday's game against the Aggies will air live on ESPN3 and Altitude.
