DENVER - Head men’s lacrosse coach Bill Tierney, head women’s lacrosse coach Liza Kelly, head women’s tennis coach Jeremy Wurtzman and head men’s tennis coach Danny Westerman addressed the media Tuesday afternoon as the University of Denver held its weekly press conference at the Champions Room at Magness Arena.
Tierney talked about his senior class, which will play its regular season game on Saturday.
“This group of seniors was recruited by the previous coach, but after coaching them for four years I feel like they’re our boys,” Tierney said. “When you have a great season, it has to be based on senior leadership, and this class ranks up with the best ones I’ve had.”
Kelly talked about her team’s win over California on Friday.
“Our Cal game was a great game, and it was a really fun game to coach,” Kelly said. “Cal played and excellent game, and I’m proud of our girls for pulling out a hard-fought victory.”
Wurtzman addressed his team’s accomplishments this season, heading into the WAC Championship.
“We had a great run to win the conference regular season, and it was amazing to beat Utah on our Senior Day,” Wurtzman said. “It was the best win we’ve had this year. Now we’re looking forward to hosting the WAC Championships this weekend, and we’re up for the challenge.”
Westerman talked about having the opportunity to host the WAC Championship this weekend.
“I think it’s great that we have the capability to host so many teams,” Westerman said. “It’s always better to play at home than on the road, so hopefully that gives us an advantage in every match. Being the No. 1 seed, there is always pressure, so now we just have to go defend our home-court.”
