Denver – Ten University of Denver men’s and women’s tennis players were selected to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) All-Tournament Team, officials announced Tuesday.

Denver men’s tennis seniors Enej Bonin (Koper, Slovenia), Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany) and Max Krammer (Perchtoldsdorf, Austria) were selected to the WAC All-Tournament team for singles.  While the senior tandems of Bonin and Vorkefeld, and Krammer and Fabio Biasion (Velbert, Germany) were selected to the All-Tournament team for doubles.

Bonin, Vorkefeld, Krammer and Biasion helped the Pioneers capture their first WAC Championship in program history defeating Idaho, 4-0.  The win earned the Pioneers a chance to compete in the 2013 NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament.  The Pioneers open against No. 15 Florida on May 10 in Gainesville, Fla.

Junior Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.) was selected to the WAC All-Tournament team for singles in women’s tennis.  Schnell won all three of her singles matches during the WAC Tournament, while helping the Pioneers advance to the WAC finals.  Senior duo of Sophia Bergner (Schechen, Germany) and Steffi Rath (Hochst, Austria) were selected to the WAC All-Tournament team for doubles. The team of Bergner and Rath helped lead the Pioneers to a 18-4 record and 8-0 WAC regular season record, while boasting a team-best, 22-9 record this season.
