DENVER- Denver women’s tennis travels to Charleston, S.C., on Friday to compete in the College of Charleston Invite at Patriots Point Tennis Center.

“I know the girls are ready for the opportunity to play against strong teams which we don't usually get to see,” head coach Christian Thompson said. “They are anxious to perform well in the last event of the fall as we have been working hard since Regionals.”

Playing for the Pioneers are senior Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.), junior Michelle Garpenlov (Tyreso, Sweden), sophomores Charlotte Derbyshire (Stockton, England), Kathryn Hughes (Wrexham, Wales) and Evy Van Genechten (Antwerp, Belgium) and freshmen Maureen Slattery (Newport News, Va.) and Sonja Radosevic (Miami, Fla.).

The women will face competitors from College of Charleston, University of Georgia, North Carolina State and Marshall. Players in the tournament will be broken down in to seven flights with four players in each flight. Flight champions will be determined via a round robin format.

After a three-week break, women’s tennis is ready to get back to action. The Pioneers last competed at the ITA Regional Championship in Las Vegas, Nev. At the tournament, Van Genechten went the farthest, advancing to the fourth round before falling to Michelle Okhremchuk (University of Nevada, Reno) 6-1; 6-1. Schnell and Slattery also did well, both making it to the third round in their draw.
