DENVER – The No. 57 ranked Denver men’s tennis team returns to action after a two-month break at the Key Biscayne Invitational in Miami, Fla., January 5-7.

The Key Biscayne Invite is an individual event and the Pioneers will be competing against players from No.20 University of Texas, No.24 Louisiana State University and No.26 University of Michigan.

“We are very excited to open the spring with our annual trip to Miami,” head coach Danny Westerman said. “Our guys are very excited for an opportunity to compete with some the of the best teams in the country in LSU, Michigan and Texas. We have very high expectations for this group and I am looking forward to how we will perform this week.”

Hitting the court for DU will be Alex Clinkenbeard (Loveland, Colo.), Henry Craig (Murrieta, Calif.), Alex Gasson (Alton, UK), Eric Marbach (Naperville, Il.), William Ro (Englewood, Colo.), Diogo Rocha (Lisbon, Portugal) and Aidan Talcott (Sea Cliff, N.Y.).

A new face will also be competing with Denver this week. Freshman Yannik James (Belmont, St. Georges, Grenada) joins the Pioneers mid-season. James is the No.257th ranked junior in the world by the ITF and qualified for the Main Draw at the Junior Orange Bowl in December 2013.

“We are thrilled to add Yannik to our team this January,” Westerman said. “He has extensive experience on the ITF Junior Circuit and will make an immediate impact on our team. Yannik helps round out our roster and now we may have the deepest team we have ever had. I cannot wait to get on the court with Yannik and together help our team reach new heights.”

On the initial day of play at the Key Biscayne Invite Sunday, the Pioneers will face off with LSU in doubles at 12:30 PM ET and Texas in singles at 1:30 PM ET.
