MIAMI, FLA. – University of Denver men’s tennis players Henry Craig (Murrieta, Calif.), Alex Clinkenbeard (Loveland, Colo.) and Aidan Talcott (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) claimed victories in the first day of play at the Key Biscayne Invitational in Miami on Sunday.
No. 86 ranked Craig first faced No. 72 ranked Chris Simpson (LSU) and defeated him 6-1, 6-2 in a straight set. A win was not as easy for Clinkenbeard. The senior battled Tam Trinh (LSU), but came out victorious at the end of three sets, 5-6, 6-4, 6-5. Freshman Talcott pulled off the final win of the day for Denver, beating Eric Perez (LSU) 6-5, 6-1.
Due to bad weather and flight delays, the Pioneers faced players from LSU and Michigan, instead of Texas, in singles play and the doubles portion of the event was postponed.
Denver men’s tennis will continue action at the Key Biscayne invitational on Monday when it is set to face Texas in doubles at 10:30 a.m., MT and Michigan in singles at 11:30 a.m., MT.
