MIAMI, FLA. – Six of eight Pioneers defeated the competition in the singles portion of the Key Biscayne Invitational in Miami on Monday.

“Today, each player took a great step forward,” head coach Danny Westerman said of the second day of play in Florida. “We competed well yesterday, but we looked much more comfortable today, especially the freshman. We played the big points much better and trusted our shots. Hopefully, we can take another step tomorrow."

Starting off strong for Denver, No. 86 ranked Henry Craig (Murrieta, Calif.) beat All-American and No. 75 ranked Soren Hess-Olesen (Texas) 6-5, 6-1. Momentum stayed on the Pioneers’ side as Alex Gasson (Alton, U.K.) defeated Shaun Bernstein (Michigan) 6-3, 6-4. Diogo Rocha (Lisbon, Portugal), battled Boris Arias (LSU) through three sets, but ended up posting a 3-6, 6-5, 6-2 win.

Also claiming singles victories for DU were Yannik James (Belmont, St. Georges, Grenada), Eric Marbach (Naperville, Ill.) and Aidan Talcott (Sea Cliff, N.Y.).
