MIAMI, FLA. – Play concluded for the Denver men’s tennis team Tuesday at the Key Biscayne Invitational in Miami. After coming out on top in all three of his singles events and two doubles events, Pioneer Henry Craig (Murrieta, Calif.) was named winner of the tournament.

"We had another great day of tennis today,” head coach Danny Westerman said. “Our freshman looked much more comfortable than they did just two days ago and as a whole we are playing some very solid tennis. I'm looking forward to a couple tough weeks of practice to get ready for the ITA kickoff and Ohio State.”

On the final day of play in Miami, Craig faced Alex Petrone (Michigan). The sophomore defeated Petrone quickly in two sets, winning 6-1, 6-0. Craig then paired up with Diogo Rocha (Lisbon, Portugal) to post a 6-3 doubles win against Berkowicz-Homs (Texas).

Rocha, Alex Gasson (Alton, U.K.) and Eric Marbach (Naperville, Ill.) were also victorious in singles on Tuesday. Gasson beat Alex Buzzi (Michigan) after a tough three-set match, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. The other two Pioneers both defeated their competition in two matches. Rocha first posted a 6-5, 6-2 win against Justin Butsch (LSU) and then Marbach beat Andrew Korinek (LSU) 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles, the teams of Gasson-Yannik James (Belmont, St. Georges, Grenada) and Alex Clinkenbeard (Loveland, Colo.)-Marbach also picked up wins. Gasson-James beat Franks-Bernstein (Michigan) 6-5 and Clinkenbeard-Marbach defeated Butsch-Korinek (LSU) 6-4.

The University of Denver men’s tennis team heads back into competition on January 25 when it faces Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
