LONG BEACH-The University of Denver women’s tennis team posted four singles wins against players from the University of Portland on Saturday at the Long Beach State Invitational.
Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.), Sonja Radosevic (Miami, Fla.), Charlotte Derbyshire (Stockton, England) and Michelle Garpenlov (Tyreso, Sweden) all claimed victories for Denver. Senior Schnell faced Jelena Lazarevic (Portland) and won in two sets, 6-4, 6-0. Next, Radosevic defeated Emily Gould (Portland) quickly 6-0, 6-1. In the final wins of the day, Derbyshire beat Marina Reimers (Portland) 6-0, 6-0 and Garpenlov was victorious over Gabrielle Gorence (Portland), 6-0, 6-0.
On the doubles front, Denver went up against teams from No. 40 ranked Long Beach State. The Pioneers battled hard, but fell to all four Long Beach pairs.
Denver will continue play Sunday at the Long Beach State Invite.
