DENVER - University of Denver volleyball head coach Jesse Mahoney announced today the addition of Shawn McLaughlin as the volunteer assistant coach for the 2012 season.

"We are very excited to have Shawn join our staff," Mahoney said. "He has an extensive background as both a player and collegiate coach and his proficiency with our statistical software will enhance our program immensely."

McLaughlin joins the Pioneers after serving as the Director of Volleyball Operations at the University of Nevada-Reno, following a brief stint as an assistant coach for the Wolf Pack. During this time, McLaughlin was responsible for video breakdown and statistical analysis as well as coordinating team travel and setting the budget for the season.

Prior to that, McLaughlin served as the volunteer assistant at the University of California Davis from June 2009 to January 2011. While with the Aggies, McLaughlin produced the season-ending highlight video, assisted with the design of recruiting mailings, team scheduling and opponent scouting reports.

Along with his work at the collegiate level, McLaughlin also has coaching experience at the club/high school level, serving as the head coach and club technical director of the Silver State Volleyball Club in Reno, Nev. He also served as the Force Volleyball Club's head coach in Sacramento, Calif., and the St. Charles United Volleyball Club's head coach in St. Louis, Mo.

McLaughlin graduated from Lindenwood University in May of 2009 with a bachelor of arts in history education with a minor in social studies. While at Lindenwood, McLaughlin played setter and libero, helping to lead his team to three Final Four NAIA Championship appearances (2005-07), including two second-place finishes in 2005 and 2006. His team also finished as NAIA Heart of America Conference Champions from 2005-08.
