BALTIMORE, Md. - The No. 16/19 University of Denver men's lacrosse team (3-2) heads on the road this week for two games. Denver opens the week traveling to Baltimore, Md., to open Eastern College Athletic Conference play on Wednesday against the No. 15/17 Loyola Greyhounds (3-1), and then continue on to Fairfield, Conn., to face the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Saturday. Denver's game against Loyola is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. MT.

THE SERIES

Denver is 1-0 all-time against the Greyhounds and 4-0 all-time against Sacred Heart. Last season Denver defeated Loyola 12-4 to claim the ECAC Regular Season Championship

SCOUTING LOYOLA

The Loyola Greyhounds come into their game with the Pioneers, sporting a 3-1 overall record. Most recently, the Greyhounds lost 14-9 to No. 12 Duke. Mike Sawyer leads Loyola with 14 points off 14 goals, while Matt Langan is second on the team with 12 points off three goals and nine assists. Face-off specialist John Schiavone is 40-of-68 on face-offs, while Josh Hawkins has recorded 22 ground balls. Goalkeeper Jake Hagelin has logged 225:00 minutes between the pipes and has a 7.73 goals-against average and a 51.7 save percentage. The Greyhounds are averaging 7.50 goals per game off 34.8 shots per game. Loyola is averaging 32.25 ground balls per game and has caused 33 turnovers. Loyola has scored eight man-up goals and has a 58.1 face-off winning percentage.

PIONEER LEADER BOARD

Junior Mark Matthews (Oshawa, Ontario) leads the Pioneers with 23 points off 14 goals and nine assists, while fellow junior Alex Demopoulos (Canton, Conn.) is second on the team with 20 points off 13 goals and seven assists. Sophomore Chase Carraro (Louisville, Ky.) leads the Pioneers' face-off group with a 62.2 face-off winning percentage and 30 groundballs. Freshman goalkeeper Jamie Faus (Lakeville, Conn.) has 47 saves on the season for a 56.6 save percentage and has an 8.32 goals against average. Denver is averaging 12.80 goals per game and is ranked fourth in the nation in scoring offense. Denver is also ranked second in man-up offense having scored 14 man-up goals so far. The Pioneers are averaging 38.8 ground balls per game, sixth best in the nation, and 10.4 caused turnovers per game, eighth best in the nation.

CAN I GET A HAT TRICK?

Junior Mark Matthews has 14 career hat tricks to his name, three in just the 2011 season alone. Fellow attackman Alex Demopoulos has nine career hat tricks, two so far this season.

GOING STREAKING

Junior Alex Demopoulos is currently on a 22-game point scoring streak coming into this week's game. Demopoulos is ranked 12th in the nation among active consecutive-game scorers. Demopoulos has scored 49 goals and recorded 31 assist for 80 points during the streak that began on Feb. 19, 2010. Junior Mark Matthews has recorded a point in 16 consecutive games ranking him tied for 26th. Matthews' streak began on March 16, 2010 and he has recorded 45 goals and 18 assists for 63 points. Bryan Neufeld from Sienna leads the nation with a 41-game point-scoring streak. (82 goals, 29 assists= 118 points)
