DENVER - The University of Denver men's basketball team's 2011-12 season ended with the Pioneers winning a team-record 22 Division I games, as the Pioneers were not selected for the National Invitation Tournament.
"We are disappointed that we will not be participating in the NIT," head coach Joe Scott said. "However, I am proud of all that this team accomplished. We won 22 Division I games - the most in school history - we went 10-3 against one of the hardest nonconference schedules in team history, and we beat three NCAA Tournament teams."
The Pioneers were one of just 66 teams in the nation to win at least 22 contests, earning the highest RPI in team history at No. 94. Denver went 4-3 against the RPI Top 100 teams, including a stellar 2-0 against teams ranked in the RPI Top 30 with victories over Southern Mississippi and Saint Mary's, which both will play in the NCAA Tournament. DU was 3-4 against teams in the 2012 NCAA Tournament and 1-0 against teams in the NIT.
