DENVER - University of Denver sophomore forward Chris Udofia (Irving, Texas) and senior guard Brian Stafford (Walnut Creek, Calif.) were both selected to the 2012 National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 24 First Team, the NABC announced Wednesday.
"I'm happy that Chris and Brian are being recognized by the coaches," head coach Joe Scott said. "Our team had a very good season with 22 wins, the most in school history, and Brian and Chris were an important part of that. Brian had an outstanding career here at Denver, and Chris continues to work hard and get better every day."
Udofia, who was voted 2012 Sun Belt Conference Defender of the Year and All-SBC First Team, ranked 30th in the nation in blocked shots (2.3 per game) and 39th in field goal percentage (.534). Udofia ranked third in the SBC in blocked shots, fourth in scoring 14.5 points per game, sixth in field goal percentage (.534) and 12th in assists (2.6 per game). Udofia's 72 blocks were the fourth most in DU single-season history, and his 111 career blocks rank fifth.
Stafford, who also was named Academic All-American and All-SBC Second Team this season, was second in the SBC in three-pointers made (2.4 per game), third in three-point field goal percentage (.457), fourth in minutes played (33.4 per game), fourth in scoring (14.5 points per game), fifth in free throw percentage (.818) and 10th in field goal percentage (.498). Denver's all-time leader in games played (124), Stafford started every game of his career. Stafford's 264 career three-pointers are third in DU history and fifth on the Sun Belt Conference all-time three-pointers made list. The DU co-captain finished his career ranked fourth in team history with 1,586 career points. Stafford is seventh on DU's all-time list with 320 free throws made.
Udofia and Stafford helped lead the Pioneers to a 22-9 overall record and an 11-5 mark in the SBC. The 22 wins were the most victories in DU's 89-year Division I history.
