DENVER – University of Denver sophomore forward Rhett Rakhshani (Huntington Beach, Calif.) has earned INCH National Player of the Week and Red Baron WCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors for Dec. 11-17. Rakhshani earns the honors after his performance in No. 4 Denver’s two-game sweep at St. Cloud State on Dec. 7-8.
Rakhshani scored four goals in the Pioneers’ sweep and finished the weekend with a +3 plus minus rating. He tallied a natural hat trick during the last five minutes and 49 seconds in Denver’s come-from-behind 3-2 win over St. Cloud State on Saturday, Dec. 8. Rakhshani scored shorthanded at 14:11, tied the score at 2-2 with a goal at 17:35 and completed his first career hat trick with the game-winning goal at 19:32.
Rakhshani added a single goal in Denver’s 3-2 win over the Huskies on Friday, Dec. 7. Rakhshani led the Pioneers with 12 shots on goal and added three hits and two blocked shots in the series. Rakhshani is second on the team with 14 points on seven goals and seven assists.
Rakhshani shares WCHA offensive player of the week honors with Alaska Anchorage’s Paul Crowder, who also netted a natural hat trick in a 5-3 win over Minnesota Duluth on Dec. 8.
The Pioneers (12-4, 9-3 WCHA) travel to Alaska Anchorage for a two-game series on Dec. 14-15.
