2009: Named a team MVP • led the Pioneers to their 20th National Championship by picking up titlesCHampCh in both the classical and the freestyle, making Maempel the second Pioneer woman to win both events at the NCAA Championships • first team All-American honors in classical and freestyle• skied in all six meets, including the NCAA West Regional and the NCAA Championships • won four races, finished on the podium nine times and placed top five in every race • came in first in the freestyle and second in the classical at the West Regional • placed first in the classical and second in the freestyle at the UAA Invitational • The All-Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association named her to women’s Nordic first team • was named the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Women’s Nordic Most Valuable Skier • named 2008-09 University of Denver Female Athlete of the Year • named Faster Skier Women's Collegiate Skier of the Year • earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII At-Large First Team honors.

 

2008: Had an excellent freshman season • named first team All-American in classical and second team All-American in freestyle • first team All-RMISA • placed third and tenth at the NCAA Championships in classical and freestyle, respectively • competed in five meets, placing in the top ten in every race • finished second in classical at the Western State Invitational and fourth in freestyle at the New Mexico Invitational.

 

Before Denver: Was the German junior class champion while skiing with WSU Oberhof from 1990-2003 • named the Sportgymnasium Oberhof athlete of the year in 2003.

 

Personal: Born June 28, 1983 in Jimenau, Germany • daughter of Bernd and Marion Maempel • has two siblings, Joerg and Simone • chose Denver because of the academics, location and ski team • enjoys reading, drawing and babysitting • also likes miniature buildings • named Sportgymnasium Oberhof’s best abitur in 2003 • intends to major in business.
