Now in his 11th year as Nordic Head Coach at Denver, David Stewart led the Pioneers to six National Championships including the 2018, 2016 and 2014 titles and three consecutive titles from 2008-2010. Under coach Stewart, Denver Nordic skiers have won five individual national championships, skied to 41 All-American performances and earned four RMISA MVP awards. As a result of the team's national success, Stewart was named 2016 USCSCA co-Nordic National Coach of the Year as well as RMISA Coach of the Year in 2008, 2009, 2014, 2016 and 2018. After winning the 2016 NCAA Championship, Stewart is looking forward to working with the team to defend the title in 2017. "I have been pleased with the success of the team over the past ten years, but we are constantly looking ahead," Stewart said. "Our University attracts bright, hard-working and talented students who I enjoy working with. I don't think there is a better place than Denver to study and ski race, and it is my goal to facilitate the aspirations of our student-athletes." A Vermont native, Stewart skied for the University of Vermont, where he graduated as a member of Phi Beta Kappa in 2000. After graduating from Vermont, he raced for the Subaru Factory Team for five years. During that time he had multiple top-10 results at the U.S. national championships and represented the U.S. in World Cup competition in 2005. Stewart also received his MBA from the Daniels College of Business at Denver in 2012. Stewart grew up in Ripton, Vermont, where his parents still live. Stewart currently resides in Denver and is married to Haley Johnson Stewart, a 2010 US Olympian in biathlon.
