, Alaska – The University of Denver ski team concluded day three at the University of Alaska Anchorage Invitational, the first day of competition for the Nordic team at the invite.

The day included the men’s Classical 10K and the women’s Classical 5K races.

As a squad, the Pioneers sit at second overall at the invitational.

Denver had another strong day on the course placing two athletes in the top five in the men’s competition with Dag Frode Trolleboe dominating competition, coming in first with a time of 26:51.6. The number two skier came in behind Trolleboe at 27:06.7.

“Daggi stole the show again today with another convincing win, first at every checkpoint and extending his lead all the way to the finish”, said head coach Dave Stewart. “It's a lot of fun to see his form coming on at this point in the season for some victories.”

Moritz Madlener also had a strong day for the Pios, claiming fifth on the day with a time of 27:21.1.

Eivind Kvaale placed seventh with a time of 28:06.3.

“Moritz and Eivind got off to slower starts, but both moved up during the second half of the race to land in 5th and 7th, which are good results given the strength of the men's field.  Lars is bouncing back from a recent cold and had a solid race given it was his first race in a month”, said Stewart.

On the women’s side, Jasmi Joensuu placed in the top five again this season, coming in at fourth with a time of 16:13.8.

Fresh off her Junior Worlds appearance, Taeler McCrerey placed 10th on the day for the Crimson and Gold, finishing with a time of 16:43.0.

“For the women, Jasmi was charging out there and loving these 5km classical races.  4th is a great result and her shape is moving in the right direction. Taeler, who rejoined the team after Junior World's last week continues her string of great results.”

The Pioneers wrap up competition at the Invitational Sunday with the Freestyle 15/20K.

"It was classic Alaska conditions out here today, cold and beautiful. We are looking forward to the first 15/20 km FR tomorrow!"
