2016-17: Saw action in 14 meets … Swam in the 4X200 free relay (17th), 400 medley (22nd) at the NCAA Championships…Fourth-best time on the team this season in the 50 free with a time of 20.32 (12/1)…Top time on the team in the 100 breast with a time of 53.38…Top time on the team in the 200 breast with a 1:57.97 (12/03/16).
2015-16: Reached NCAA B Standards in the 100 and 200 breaststroke…Helped team win 17 of 20 events at the 2016 Summit League Championships…Helped set eight Summit League Championship records…Named to the 2016 Summit All-League team. 2014-15: Named Academic All-American Honorable Mention…School record in both the 100 Breast and 200 breast…He won both events at the Summit League Championship while also taking 2nd in 200 IM…The 100 breaststroke time of 53.00 is a new school record by nearly a full second. The 200 record he took down was from 6 years ago as well…Was part of conference winning and school record relays in the 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay…The 200 medley was a conference record…NCAA Standards in 100 & 200 Breaststroke and 200 IM.
Before Denver: Member of the Barker Aquatic Swimming Club…Short course state champion in Australia for three consecutive years (2010-12)…Qualified for the short and long course nationals every year dating back to 2008…Record-holder of over 20 records at the Australian school level…Holds multiple records at the regional and state levels…Ranked among the Australian Top 25 SCM 18-yrs. placing in the 50 meter, 100 meter and 200 meter breaststroke, the 100 meter and 200 meter backstroke and the 100 meter and 200 meter IM…Was a finalist at the Australian Open SC Championships in the 50 meter breaststroke, 100 meter breaststroke and 200 IM.
Personal: Born July 21, 1994 in Sydney, Australia…Son of Gregory and Patsy Cottam…Has one brother, Andrew and one sister, Lucinda…Chose Denver because of the great location, the awesome vibes he got from the coaches and because he can easily see himself performing and training well with the team…Also recruited by Purdue University, University of Tennessee, SUNY at Buffalo and UNLV…Hopes to win a World Short Course Championship in the 100m breaststroke…Enjoys going to the beach, playing Xbox and skiing…Majoring in Psychology.
