Denver Topples Rice, 126-76

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The University of Denver women's swimming and diving team opened day two of the 2017 Dual-a-Pool-Ooza with a 126-76 victory over Rice on Saturday morning at the Reily Center Natatorium.

Sophomore Josie Valette (Boulder, Colo.) swept the two butterfly events to lead the way for the Pioneers with two victories. Senior Morgan McCormick (Golden, Colo.) and junior Bailey Andison (Smiths Falls, Ontario) were also a part of two event wins, each taking an individual event after making up half of the quartet that won the 200 medley relay.

Alongside McCormick and Andison, senior Heidi Bradley (Victoria, B.C.) and senior Morgan Wice-Roslin (Colorado Springs, Colo.) combined for a 1:43.87 in the meet's opening relay to touch the wall first.

Senior Maddie Myers (Arvada, Colo.) continued her distance racing success with a first place finish in the 500 free, touching the final wall in 4:59.11.

Denver took three of the top four spots in the 200 butterfly. Valette won her first event of the morning, clocking in at 2:03.43, followed behind a third place finish from sophomore Kylie Cronin (Marblehead, Mass. -- 2:03.71) and a fourth place finish from Bradley, who finished in 2:04.13.

Freshman Aysia Leckie (Georgetown, Ontario) touched first in the 100 free, timed at 51.98 to lead the Pioneers. McCormick followed that up with her individual win in the 200 back, finishing in an NCAA B Standard time of 1:58.67.


 

 


The Pioneers took the top three spots in the 50 fly, led by Valette's second win of the morning (25.57). Bradley finished second in 25.61 and Cronin touched third in 25.85.

DU's last individual event win of the first dual of the day came in the 400 IM when Andison out-touched Myers to give the Pioneers a 1-2 finish. Andison clocked in at 4:22.27, while Myers finished the race in 4:23.81.
