Summit League Announces Swimming and Diving All-League Awards

ELMHURST, Ill. (DU/Summit League) – The University of Denver men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs combined for 33 student-athletes on the Summit League Swimming and Diving All-League teams that were announced on Tuesday after the conclusion of the 2018 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships this weekend.

All-league awards were given out for finishing in the top three of an event at the championships.

In addition to the all-league teams, the major awards were once again recognized. On the men’s side, sophomore Colin Gilbert (Kamloops, B.C.) was named the Men’s Swimming Championship MVP, while redshirt-freshman Stephen Calkins (Calgary, Alberta) earned Newcomer of the Championship honors. Denver’s women’s program saw Maddie Myers (Arvada, Colo.) named the Women’s Swimming Championship MVP, Sammy Walker (Los Gatos, Calif.) named the Diving Championship MVP and Charlotte Simon (Saint Remy, France) named the Newcomer of the Championship.

Head coach Brian Schrader earned his 14th Coach of the Year honor in his 11 seasons at Denver when he earned the Men’s Swimming Coach of the Year Award. DU head diving coach Benjamin Grado was recognized as the Men’s Diving Coach of the Year.

UP NEXT: Denver will have swimmers compete in the 2018 American Short Course Championships from March 1-3. That competition will kick-start four-straight weeks of action with the CSCAA National Invitational (March 8-10), the NCAA Women's Championships (March 14-17) and the NCAA Men's Championships (March 21-24).
