Johnston and Sanes Named Summit League Swimmers of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. (DU/Summit) – University of Denver sophomore women’s swimmer Andi Johnston (Fort Collins, Colo.) and freshman men’s swimmer Adriel Sanes (Rosharon, Texas) have been named Summit League Swimmers of the Week for their performances in Wednesday’s FAU FUN Invite.

  • Named Summit League Swimmer of the Week for the first time in her career
  • Won the 500 free (5:06.27) at the FAU FUN Invite
  • Touched second in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.15
  • Helped Denver win 17-of-32 events

Through 35 years of Division I athletics, The Summit League offers 19 championship sports and has a combined enrollment of nearly 100,000 at eight institutions, including three located in top 60 U.S. metro populations and two land-grant universities. Member institutions include: Denver (University of Denver), Fort Wayne (Indiana University-Purdue University-Fort Wayne), North Dakota State University, Omaha (University of Nebraska Omaha), Oral Roberts University, the University of South Dakota, South Dakota State University and Western Illinois University with the University of North Dakota becoming an official member on July 1, 2018. Previously known as the Mid-Continent Conference, The Summit League rebranded in 2007 and has since produced nine NCAA Champions along with over 90 Academic All-Americans, nearly 100 All-America selections and numerous former student-athletes competing at the highest professional level. UP NEXT: Denver will resume its dual meet schedule in 2018 when the Pioneers’ men’s and women’s programs head to Minnesota on January 13. Both programs will return to El Pomar Natatorium Jan. 19 (Colorado Mesa – 4 p.m.) and Jan. 20 (Utah - 12 p.m.).
