DENVER
– The University of Denver men's basketball team showed its fight late on Tuesday night, digging deep to hold off San Jose State 58-56 in Magness Arena. The win improved the Pioneers’ record to 4-5 on the year, while the Spartans dropped to 2-6 on the season.

Joe Rosga dropped in a game-high 23 points to go with four rebounds as part of a trio of players to combine for 56 of DU’s 58 points.

Jake Pemberton scored a season-high 20 points while dishing out four assists.

Daniel Amigo added 13 points and had a career-high five assists.

The Pioneers used solid defense late to overcome an 18.2 percent (4-for-22) shooting performance in the second half.

Denver was in total command in the first half. Outscoring San Jose State 33-18 in the opening 20 minutes of action. DU gave SJSU fits in on the defensive end, holding them to 29.4 percent from the floor.

Only three Pioneers scored in the second half in Pemberton, Amigo and Rosga.

DU, who lost a big lead against Air Force late on Saturday, showed it had learned from its last outing, this time picking up key stops at critical times to get the win.

A Win’s a Win
Though the game got sloppy in the second half, Denver showed its resolve and found a way to pull out a win despite a sluggish second half for a second-consecutive game. The Crimson and Gold showed that they can win an ugly game which is a sign of a team growing and pulling out a victory despite not having it’s best night overall.

Up Next
