DENVER -- The University of Denver men's basketball team released its 2016-17 non-league schedule on Thursday. The Pioneers will host five non-league home games head coach Rodney Billups announced.

DU opens the 2016-17 campaign at Magness Arena with a meeting with Jacksonville on Saturday Nov. 12. The Crimson and Gold kicks off their road slate against Mountain West member San Jose State on Nov. 17.

Denver returns home for one game against Utah Valley (Nov. 23) before embarking on seven straight games away from Magness. The road trip begins at Eastern Washington (Nov. 26) and ends at former Sun Belt Conference rival South Alabama (Dec. 13).

"Now that the non-league schedule is finalized, we are becoming more excited about the upcoming season," Billups said. "We can actually start preparing for our opponents. During the month of November and early December we will be on the road a lot, but this group was very successful on the road last season."

This year's schedule features two teams that appeared in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. The Pioneers will take on Weber State (Dec. 3) and Texas A&M (Dec. 7), both on the road in back-to-back games. The Wildcats are coming off a 26-9 season in which they won both the regular season and Big Sky Tournament Championship. The Aggies of the Southeastern Conference went 28-9 and won the regular season SEC Championship. Texas A&M advanced to the Sweet 16 before being eliminated by Oklahoma.

DU also travels to face regional rivals Wyoming (Nov. 30) and Air Force (Dec. 10).

Games at Magness Arena also include Northern Colorado (Dec. 17), Arkansas Pine-Bluff (Dec. 19) and UC-Riverside (Dec. 22). A neutral site game against Sacramento State (Nov. 27) will be played in Cheney, Wash.

"Our staff has already challenged our student-athletes to be undefeated at home," Billups said. "There is nothing more important in college basketball than protecting your home court."

Billups will enter his first season at the helm for the Crimson and Gold.

Returning to the Pioneers are sophomore's Joe Rosga, Thomas Neff, C.J. Bobbitt, Bradley George, Jake Holtzmann, Abiola Akintola, Emil Knighton and Jacob Lunsford.

The junior class consists of Jake Pemberton, Daniel Amigo, Christian Mackey and redshirt junior Duke Douglas.

The lone senior will be walk-on Josiah Dunn.

They will be joined by incoming freshmen Ade Murkey, Luke Neff and Jake Krafka
