Men's Basketball

DENVER – The University of Denver men’s and women’s basketball programs hosted their annual Fan Jam Wednesday night in Magness Arena, a kickoff to the 2016-17 season for hundreds of fans of all ages, as well as alumni and supporters.

Fans were treated to an intersquad 3-point contest, assistant coach and student half-court challenge and a men’s dunk contest.

The men’s team claimed a victory in the 3-point contest as sophomore guard Joe Rosga, sophomore guard Thomas Neff and senior guard Josiah Dunn combined for 13 3s, narrowly edging out the women’s team of freshman guard Lauren Loven, senior guard Jacqlyn Poss and sophomore guard Samantha Romanowski who combined for 12 3-pointers. Two lucky fans were also chosen from the crowd to compete in the three-point competition.

Following the three-point contest was a half-court shot, where one athlete and one coach from each team, as well as two attendees participated. Junior forward Jordyn Alt shot for the women’s team while junior center Christian Mackey played for the men. Coach Rodney Billups represented the men’s team coaching staff and David Elliott shot for the women’s team. Many shots were close, but none fell in the half-court contest.

One of the evening’s highlights, the fan favorite men’s dunk contest featured sophomore forward Emil Knighton, sophomore forward C.J. Bobbitt, sophomore guard Bradley George and freshman guard Ade Murkey. Although many monster dunks happened, George took home the title with a windmill one-handed slam in the final round.

After the conclusion of the event, fans had the opportunity to meet the players and coaches and get autographs.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will open their seasons in November at home, with the women’s team opening Nov. 11 against Air Force and the men opening Nov. 12 against Jacksonville. Both games are slated to tipoff at 7 p.m. in Magness Arena.
