Men's Golf Jumps Up Three Spots on Saturday

PALM SPRINGS, Calif.The University of Denver men's golf team shot 4-over on day two of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Saturday. The Pioneers moved up three spots, tying with Idaho for 17th.  

Par was 72 at the 7,322-yard course at the Classic Club.

No. 19 California continued to lead through the second day of the three-round event, improving its advantage over No. 9 Texas Tech to 15 strokes.

Erik Billinger went with the lineup of Chris Korte, Jake Kelley, Jackson Solem, Isaac Petersilie and Eric Hagen.



John Sand and Roy Kang also competed, but as individuals.

"Isaac played very steady all day today which was great to see,” said Billinger. “Jackson also stepped up today for the team with a solid round of even par. I also liked our focus and resilience as we had six team birdies in the final two holes today. 

“I'm excited for tomorrow as this team is working hard and once our confidence kicks in, some great team rounds are ahead."

Petersilie led DU with a 1-under 72 in the second round on Saturday. The sophomore fired five birdies on the day, moving him into a tie for 57th.

Finishing par for the day was Solem, who improved to tie for 76th.

Korte shot a 2-over on the afternoon, tying for 57th with teammate Petersilie.

Kelley and Hagen each carded a 3-over.

Sand shot a 74 and Kang recorded a 78.

The third and final round of the tournament is set for Sunday.
