Feb. 18, 2018

TEAM RESULTS | IND. LEADERBOARD

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. The University of Denver men's golf team closed out the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in style on Sunday, shooting a 6-under on the final day of competition.

The Pioneers ended the weekend tied for 10th, beating out No. 26 Tennessee by one stroke.

Par was 72 at the 7,322-yard course at the Classic Club.

No. 19 California took home the title, finishing ahead of No. 9 Texas Tech by a commanding 20 strokes.

Erik Billinger went with the lineup of Chris Korte, Jake Kelley, Jackson Solem, Isaac Petersilie and Eric Hagen.

John Sand and Roy Kang also competed, but as individuals.

I'm really proud of this group and the way they hung tough and battled over the last three days,” said Billinger. “All five players had their best round today and bettered their team total each day by at least 10 strokes. Today's round was the type of momentum they needed and can only serve us well in next week’s event at Pepperdine.“

Korte carded a 2-under for the afternoon, finishing off the tournament in 38th.

In the final round, Kelley led the way for DU, shooting a 3-under 69. The senior from Littleton managed six birdies on the day, putting him at a tie for 44th with teammate Petersilie, who fired a 1-under.

Hagen went par for the day at 72, while Solem posted a 1-over.

Sand shot an even par and Kang finished with 81.

The men’s golf team returns to action on March 11, for the Bandon Dunes Championship in Oregon.
