Pioneers Finish 12th at Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate
Denver closes tournament with six-over-par on final day

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The University of Denver men’s golf team closed out the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Sunday, ending the tournament tied for 12th after the final round with a six-over-par 294. The Pioneers shot 891 as a team over the three days.
“Glad that our bad scores are much better than they have been in the past,” said head coach Erik Billinger, “but we need to get a lot better. Petter, Jake and Chris had a pretty solid weekend and this team is only going to get better as the spring season progresses.”
Mikalsen finished with a two-over 74 on the final day, finishing tied for 31st on the leaderboard with a total of 219.
Kelley closed his tournament run with a two-over 74 as well, finishing five-over during the event for a 221 final and tied for 42nd.
Korte, ended the day at an even-72, while Hagen tallied a two-over 74 for a 227 final tied at 72nd to pull ahead of Petersilie who recorded a five-over 77 and a 230 final, ending tied for 90th on the course.
Roy Kang finished his individual run with a five-over 77, tied for 96th behind a 231 total, while Troy Dangler concluded the tournament with a two-over 74, tied for 101st on a 233 total.
No. 10 Oregon took the team title after going three-under on the final day, finishing with a 285 on round three for an 838 final to best No. 24 Colorado, who went two-over for the round to finish at 290 and an 848 team mark.
The Ducks had two golfers finish up top as Wyndham Clark and Norman Xiong tallied a 205 over the course of the event, Clark ended four-under on the day for a score of 68 while Xiong closed with a one-over for a final of 73.
The Pioneers will have the next three weeks off, resuming the 2017 spring season on March 12 at the Bandon Dunes Championship at Bandon, Ore., hosted by Gonzaga.
