Denver Takes Eighth at Southwestern Invitational

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.The University of Denver men's golf team kept up its consistent play, tying for eighth at the Southwestern Invitational on Tuesday. The Pioneers posted a three-round total of 903 (302-302-299).

No. 22 UCLA ran away with the team title, winning by 20 strokes over runner-up No. 41 Pepperdine.

Par for the 6,994-yard course was 72.

Erik Billinger went with the lineup of Chris Korte, Eric Hagen, Isaac Petersilie, Jackson Solem and John Sand.



“The course and weather were a great challenge this week,” Billinger said. “I’m proud of the guys for competing hard this week as we picked up some really good head-to-head wins. Chris and Eric played solid, and it was fun to watch them compete.”

Korte kept his strong play going, tying for 12th after a final-round 1-under on Tuesday. The Littleton native had it rolling in his final 18 holes, recording five birdies in the round.

Hagen closed out his tournament tied for 24th, a season best for the sophomore. He was consistent all three rounds, going 75-75-74 in the tournament.

Solem wrapped up his day tied for 51st.

Petersilie finished up tied for 53rd.

Sand placed tied for 56th.

DU returns to action on Mar. 11 for the Bandon Dunes Championship in Bandon, Ore.
