Korte Stays Hot as Pioneers Finish 12th

March 13, 2018

BANDON, Ore. The University of Denver men's golf team had its best day of the Bandon Dunes Championship on Tuesday, finishing 12th after posting an impressive 1-over team score. The Pioneers finished with a 54-hole total of 872 (297-290-285).

Par for the 6,633-yard course was 71.

Erik Billinger went with the lineup of Chris Korte, Eric Hagen, Isaac Petersilie, Jackson Solem and John Sand.

No. 22 Arizona State locked up the team title, winning by a comfortable 13 strokes over No. 15 Clemson.

Korte again delivered for DU, posting another 5-under 66 on the day, which tied for the second lowest score of the round. The Littleton native had it going, notching five birdies while playing bogey-free golf the whole day.

The senior’s stellar outing placed him in a tie for fifth in the three-day event, his best finish of the year so far.

“Chris had another awesome day with another 66,” Billinger said. “He went bogey-free for his last round and finished in the top five. Overall, we had two solid showings after a tough first day. It has been nice to see steady improvement from our guys this quarter and we are looking forward to getting back at it after spring break.”

Sand locked up his best finish of the year, tying for 37th after shooting a 2-over 73 in his final round.

Hagen climbed up four spots on the leaderboard to tie for 57th thanks to a 1-over 72.

Solem also turned in his best scorecard of the tournament, tallying a 3-over 74, good to move into a tie for 71st.

Petersilie finished 78th.

The Crimson and Gold get back to it next week with a dual against Colorado State in Seattle, Wash. on Mar. 23.
