Korte Eagles to End Day One at NCAA Regional

May 14, 2018

NORMAN, Okla. – University of Denver men's golf senior Chris Korte completed the first day of NCAA Regionals in Norman, Okla. on Monday. The senior played the round at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.

The Littleton, Colo. native shot a 4-over 76 in the opening round, putting Korte in a tie for 51st. The senior’s day included a birdie and an eagle on the final hole.

Oklahoma’s Blaine Hale leads the field with a 5-under 67.

Par was 72 at the 7,452-yard course.

Chris actually played a lot more solid today than his score shows,“ head coach Erik Billinger said. “Jimmie Austin Golf Club is playing really tough with the wind up and the greens fast. Chris made the turn at 1-over, had unfortunate bogeys on 10, 12 and 13 and a lost ball on 14. He rebounded with all pars and a spectacular eagle on 18 to finish strong.

“With a total of 4-over, we know tomorrow we need to shoot something under par but with the way Chris is hitting the ball that is very doable. Tomorrow will be another great test and he is excited to have a clean card tomorrow.”

Korte, a first-team All-Summit League selection is competing as an individual and can move on to the NCAA Championship in Stillwater, Okla. if he finishes with the lowest score of a player on a non-advancing team. The top five teams in each regional will advance.
