Korte Fires 2-under on day two of NCAA Regional

May 15, 2018

NORMAN, Okla.University of Denver men's golf senior Chris Korte really found his groove on day two of the NCAA Regional. The Pioneer standout battled some tough wind and a lightning delay to make a move up the leaderboard at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club on Tuesday.

The Littleton, Colo. native dialed it up on day two of the tournament, moving up 22 spots after a 2-under performance on the round. Korte was hot with the putter on the day, locking up five birdies for the round, highlighted by a five-hole stretch of three birdies on the front nine.

Oklahoma’s Blaine Hale leads all individuals through two rounds with a score of 8-under, one stroke ahead of Brigham Young’s Patrick Fishburn.

Par was 72 at the 7,452-yard course.

“Chris played awesome today,” head coach Erik Billinger said. “He made five birdies and hit the ball really well. He got himself back into contention for the individual spot for nationals and has a shot at it tomorrow.

“He had a great practice session after the round and is excited about some shots around the greens that are needed here. Tomorrow will be exciting as there is nothing better than post-season college golf.”

Korte, a first-team All-Summit League selection is competing as an individual and can move on to the NCAA Championship in Stillwater, Okla. if he finishes with the lowest score of a player on a non-advancing team. The top five teams in each regional will advance.

Final-round action is set for Wednesday.
