Denver Rises to Sixth on Final Day of Ram Masters Invitational

FORT COLLINS – The University of Denver men’s golf team closed out its first tournament of the year in sixth on Tuesday. The Pioneers fired a 7-over 287 in the final round of the Ram Masters Invitational.                                                                                   

Par the 7,218-yard course was 70 at the Fort Collins Country Club.

Senior Jake Kelley had it going in the final round, posting a season-low 69 in his 18 rounds on the course. The Littleton native’s day consisted of two birdies and only one bogey, putting him in a tie for 18th at 2-over.

“I am really pleased with our back nine today,” head coach Erik Billinger said. “We played tough when the wind came up on the final nine.

“Great playing by Chris and Jake today on the course. Their senior leadership was invaluable this week. Congrats to Colorado State defending their home turf and we look forward to traveling to New Mexico tomorrow to compete in the Tucker.”


 

 

Host Colorado State took home the team title with a score of 17-under, 19 strokes over the nearest competition in the 19-team field.

Senior Chris Korte closed out the tournament in 11th with a three-round total of 210, even par.

Sophomore Isaac Petersilie tied for 28th with a 3-over on his last day in the tournament.

Eric Hagen jumped up six spots to finish tied for 85th with his best round of the two-day event, a 73 on Tuesday.

Freshman John Sand, making his collegiate debut, tied for 91st but posted his best round so far at DU with a 4-over on the afternoon.

Roy Kang and Michael Boylan, each competing as individuals, ended their days in 77th and 85th.

The Crimson and Gold make a quick turnaround and head off to Albuquerque for the Tucker Invitational on Sept. 22.
