Pioneers to Open Spring Season at the Arizona Intercollegiate

DENVERThe University of Denver men's golf team starts its spring season on Monday competing at the Arizona Intercollegiate. The two-day event kicks off with 36 holes of play at the Sewailo Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz.

In the first competition of the spring, head coach Erik Billinger is going with the lineup of Eric Hagen, Chris Korte, Jake Kelley, Jackson Solem and John Sand.

Par for the 7,283-yard course is 72.

In the fall, DU participated in three tournaments, the Ram Master Invitational, the Tucker Invitational and the Stockton Pacific Invitational. The Pioneers finished no worse than 11th, carding sixth, 10th and 11th respectively.


 

 

Korte had a strong fall season, taking back-to-back 11th-place finishes at the Ram Master Invitational and at the Tucker Invitational. At the Stockton Pacific Invite, the senior tied for 18th, shooting a total of 213.

Korte’s fellow senior teammate, Kelley also had a top finish in the fall, recording a tie for 18th with a 2-ove- par (212) at the Ram Masters.

Despite it being his first season, Solem turned some heads when he tied for 23rd at the Stockton Pacific Invite. The Longmont, Colo. native etched a two-under par (214) for the tournament.
