First round of championships postponed until Monday due to excessive rain
April 30, 2017
NEWTON, Kan. - The University of Denver men's golf team had two athletes recognized for their outstanding play throughout the 2016-17 season Saturday night in senior captain Petter Mikalsen and junior Chris Korte.
Both men earned first-team All-Summit honors.
The honor marks the third for Mikalsen, who was named the Men's Golfer of the Year in 2015. The senior captain leads the Crimson and Gold with a 73.27 average, ranking him second in the Summit League. Mikalson claims the league-low for this season when he shot a 64 in the second round of the Paintbrush Invitational.
"This award shows how hard Chris and Petter have both worked all season as well as how consistent they have been", said head coach Erik Billinger. "I am so proud of both of them for being named first-team all-conference."
Korte's honor also marks the third of his career. The junior ranks second on his team and third in the Summit League with a 73.32 stroke average for the season.
The first round of the Summit League Championships has been postponed due to excessive amounts of rain and standing water on the course. Play will begin Monday morning with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. The championships will be held at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kan.
All teams will play 36 holes Monday to make up for the lack of play Sunday.
